It’s official, I’m a “YouTuber” — well not really, but it’s a good platform for me to upload my video tutorials and avoid bogging down the website with heavy media files. Fun either way!
I promised some video tutorials for the New Legends Top and Dress Pattern and even though it took me a little longer than expected, they are here!
The video tutorials are focused on the bodices clean finish assembly in the instructions. For anyone who has not experienced this kind of construction, it can sometimes be hard to envision the method and final outcome, creating some confusion along the way. Once mastered (which is SUPER easy!), you will see how simple this technique is and will want to use it whenever a pattern allows for it.
The “burrito method” as some call it; allows you to encase various seams through-out your garment during construction. It is most commonly used to create encased and clean armholes in a bodice with lining. This pattern uses the method to encase the neckline, armholes (sleeveless version) and side seams.
I’m not sure where this method was first encountered and it would be interesting to find out — my first use of it was in the Bohemian Baby doll E&E pattern, I instantly fell in love with how clean and easy the method was and now use it whenever I can. It’s one of those awesome techniques you keep in your arsenal like a welt pocket or invisible zipper technique, always handy.
Please forgive me, I’m a bit sniffley in the video — I was just getting over a cold while recording the tutorial (hence the delayed release date on the videos), but I was well enough to record and I wanted to get it out to you, so it’s done and I think it’s okay – be gentle on me, it’s my first time..LOL!
Video 1: Walks you through the neckline construction, back bodice and the clean finish in the neckline.
Video 2: Finishes the Neckline and walks you through the finish in the armholes and side seams.
Video 3 – Quick Method : Is bonus content that walks you through a even faster method of constructing the bodice but does NOT encase the seams. Honestly sometimes it doesn’t matter right? And I wanted to give you the option to choose.
All the videos are recorded in 1080p HD – so if it is not set to that on your first view – you can click the settings wheel in the bottom left corner of the video to change the viewing quality!
